Chris Clarke here, editor of Vacant Ready. I’m having a pretty good time finding friends and colleagues on Facebook. Are you using it too? What do you think?

I am, but I am finding it hard to get replies or responses from other people on the various industry-specific groups I have joined. I read their posts, I post my funny or serious incidents, I reply to their posts and ask questions about how their hotel handles this sort of event etc and no one answers. I’m about to un-join the whole darn lot of them, if they aren’t any use to me. I know maybe some people are afraid for reasons of anonymity, but really! I would like to find out for example how other hotels retain staff, we are losing them at record rates.

That’s too bad, although I’m not too surprised to hear that at this point. Most of the hotelier groups on Facebook don’t seem to be particularily work focussed yet. I’m sure in time that will change as the novelty wears off…

I see from your profile that you are in Uniform/Guest Services--I’ll open up a thread with your question about employee retention and we’ll see what we can uncover (after I ask around a bit).
