San Francisco’s Classy Westin St. Francis Hotel in 1958

In the mid 1980’s Aaron Spelling produced a popular TV show called “Hotel”. The series was based on Arthur Hailey’s book about love and intrigue behind the scenes of a luxury hotel. The book is a fun read and I remember the show from when I was a teenager.
The above image of the St. Francis hotel (now the Westin St. Francis) captured back in 1958 reminds me of the grand St. Gregory hotel where the TV show supposedly took place. These old beauties brought an elevated dimension of prestige to the lodging industry--different from the smaller boutique design hotels currently flourishing in North America.
