Photo Tour of Vancouver’s Moda Hotel

Although we enjoy featuring luxury hotel openings such as the Loden Vancouver and the Shangri-La development here at Vacant Ready, there are many other interesting renovations happening in the city.

The historic Moda Hotel on 900 Seymour (adjacent to the Orpheum Theatre) has renovated all of the guestrooms within the last three months. Historical elements in the lobby have been restored, and construction of a restaurant and wine-bar are in full swing.

This heritage building, built in 1908, was most recently the (somewhat seedy) Dufferin Hotel before re-branding to the more upscale and refurbished Moda. Room rates for tonight range from $119 to $189, which is definitely comparable with most other budget properties in the downtown core.

Guestrooms now feature a more tailored, contemporary look with new beds, linens, and furnishings. Each room features flat screen televisions and high speed internet access.

Last week I wandered into the lobby for a look and was quite impressed with the efforts to restore the public areas. Actually I went into the lobby twice since I didn’t have my camera the first time. On the first visit I was immediately greeted by a very pleasant and helpful male employee, but the second visit was much less engaging with a female desk agent. Hopefully renovations are upcoming on the service side of things as well!

The room looks like the renovations we are currently doing on the rooms I clean.  The new rooms have more tile on the floor, meaning more hands and knees work.  The lamp posts/urns/vases have these little bumps we have to make sure dust doesn’t get trapped in/on.  The new silvery metals they are using for the designer toilet paper rolls and curved shower curtain rod, the new sink installs etc...more wiping and polishing...same amount of time allotted.

Totally unfair, but I do admit...that’s a very nice looking room.

HC, you have kitchens in your hotel as well, right? I’ve worked with kitchens twice in my career in housekeeping, and it can get pretty rough.

Hey Chris, you might want to try the Flickr slideshow generator for embedding your hotel tour right here on the web page as well. Check it out: http://flickrslidr.com/

Great tip James, thanks. It took me about 5 seconds to get the slide show together and on the blog.

C.

It’s a great little piece of functionality. I hope that Flickr either buys it or integrates it into their service.

looks like a wonderful hotel, thanks for sharing.
