Hotel restaurants around the world are renowned for their extensive brunch buffets. So much awesome food, and only so much room in the stomach.

Naturally your guests need a strategy to maximize their value while patronizing your buffet offering.

A motley group of Westin Shanghai guests banded together to develop this training video to teach the lost art of buffet gouging...Westin style.

I can just feel Westin’s food cost rising as I watch it.

Angus is an Australian freelance journalist who writes about technology and travel. He also maintains a great blog on his personal site called Gusworld where he talks tech but also offers some outstanding video reviews of the hotels he stays in while on the road.

These video hotel reviews are packed with information, and they offer a very authentic review of the hotel guestroom. The following video offers a wonderful (and somewhat un-flattering) monologue about the design and amenity choices in San Francisco’s W Hotel.

In all, Angus has reviewed 32 hotels around the world. Check out the YouTube line-up here.

“A Gusworld Junket Vlog examining the minor irritations encountered in an otherwise very flashy hotel room at the W Hotel in San Francisco.”

Paul McManus, President and CEO of Leading Hotels of the World was recently featured in a video interview where he outlines what he considers to be the the luxury hotel industry’s critical challenges moving forward.

Paul suggests that we operate in a “fitful”, dynamic environment where new owners are bringing new philosophies to the trade. Conglomerate owners like Blackstone and Colony Capital have an unbridled appetite for hotel and brand acquisition, but they have absolutely no specific business plan in place to actually manage and maintain these assets.

While hoteliers operate with passion and hospitality, these new owner groups are acquiring hotels because they are finding good deals. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, but the unfortunate result for the hotel industry means quick flips of hotel assets, mass conglomeration and diminishing quality of service.

Check out this excellent five minute interview for more details:

TenToe.tv is a lifestyle and hospitality video guide featuring cities across the U.S.A.

In a recent edition host Kathie Rice Jones visits with key members of the team at the W Hotel in San Francisco. The segment kicks off with Melissa Brown, Marketing Director at the W, then moves to the F&B arena to meet Michael Garcia, Beverage Director and Paul Piscopo, Executive Chef.

This is an awesome way to showcase the hotel experience and highlight what is cool about city destinations. Anyone out there looking for an online hosting gig? You can sign up to be a host or videographer in your own city...looks like TenToe could use more content.

Check it out.

Today I stumbled upon a wonderful collection of video hotel reviews submitted by YouTube user Gary Bembridge.

This British hotel maven delivers short, entertaining and highly valuable mini tours of hotel rooms he stays in. When hotel reviews are partnered with video, their accuracy and relevance are virtually impossible to deny. Gary has also developed a series of podcasts from his travels which look equally promising to discover true insider travel destination info. Check out TipsforTravellers.com.

Gary has amassed almost one hundred video reviews in his YouTube inventory including hotel properties from virtually all market segments. Going to Toronto? You might want to avoid the desolate Westin Prince. Heading to Seoul, Korea? Perhaps the Grand Hyatt Hotel is for you. The rooms are small, but sweet.

Social media travel spaces and communities are fast becoming the respected resources for travel research. Why? Because they do a far better job uncovering truth than any corporate website will ever do. In Europe, video review sites such as Trivop and Tvtrip are already flourishing. Adam Healy’s upstart hotel review community called VibeAgent is building momentum. Travel communities like MatadorTravel are already tapping in to the strength and power of communities to deliver travel info from peer to peer. This is an exciting time for travellers seeking real information, because they can actually find it.

I love this tour of London’s ultra-luxury Ritz Hotel. Posh? You bet!
